Frank’s Pizza is no more

RIPI have some sad news for those who like unique food. Frank’s Pizza on 50th and Pine Island has closed. Frank’s wasn’t an ordinary pizza joint. It’s specialty was Mofongo, a Puerto Rican dish made from fried plantains, pork, and lots of tasty spices. It’s a delicious dish, and Frank made several variations of it including my favorite, which featured shrimp.

My wife and I met Frank in the Summer of 2012. We were in the process of buying a  house. We had previously toured a house in Northwest Lauderhill and wanted to see what the neighborhood was like at night. We were delighted to find that there was very little traffic and the area was rather quiet. Being pregnant with our first child at the time, my wife needed to go to the bathroom approximately every eight minutes. We wound up at Frank’s and had a conversation with him that likely lasted at least an hour. He was just starting his restaurant, and he did a great job of talking up the neighborhood. This was definitely a factor in our choice to buy our home. Frank’s may be gone but his impact on my family will last a long time.
